Copyright, Publication Permission and Open-Access Licensing

STA Congress distinguishes ownership of copyright from the permission granted to publish. Authors/artists retain copyright in their work unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Ownership and publication permission

For accepted content, the rights holder grants STA Congress a non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to present it in the event programme, publish it online, make technical reproductions/conversions, create accessible formats, index it and preserve it in the scholarly archive. This permission is not an assignment of copyright ownership.

02

CC BY-NC 4.0 default

Unless a publication/item expressly states otherwise, original scholarly texts released by STA Congress as open access may be made available under CC BY-NC 4.0 (Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International), permitting sharing and adaptation provided appropriate credit is given, the licence is linked, changes are indicated and use is non-commercial.

03

Material excluded from the default licence

  • Third-party images, photographs, drawings, typographic examples, archival documents and material carrying a separate licence notice.
  • Artwork images and exhibition works are not automatically licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0 unless the artist/rights holder expressly grants that licence.
  • Logos, trade marks, brand assets and personal data are not covered by the open licence.
  • Statutory exceptions, quotation rights and third-party licences remain subject to their own conditions.
04

Author warranties and duties

The author/artist represents that they hold the rights or permissions necessary for submitted material, that attribution is accurate and that third-party intellectual and moral rights are not infringed. If a rights claim arises, access may be temporarily restricted during review and a correction, licence-note change or removal may follow depending on the evidence.

05

Commercial reuse and additional permission

Commercial use of material covered by CC BY-NC 4.0 is outside the licence grant. Separate permission from the rights holder is required for commercial or other uses not permitted by the licence.

Implementation note

This text is an institutional operating policy of STA Congress. Applicable law, competent-authority decisions and stricter event-specific rules prevail where relevant. Policies must remain consistent with actual workflows and technical systems.
