Correction, Retraction and Scholarly Record Policy

The primary purpose of post-publication action is not punishment, but preservation of a trustworthy and traceable scholarly record.

01

Correction

An error, missing attribution, metadata issue or content problem that does not invalidate the central result/interpretation but is material to readers may be corrected with a dated notice. Substantive changes are linked to the previous record.

02

Expression of concern

Where serious concerns exist but investigation is ongoing or cannot yet reach a reliable conclusion, a temporary expression of concern may be published to alert readers.

03

Retraction

Publication may be retracted where unreliable findings, serious plagiarism/misconduct, unauthorised publication, redundant publication or another issue materially undermining the record is established. The retraction notice should remain linked to the original record, accessible and state the reason where possible.

04

Complete removal

Complete removal is exceptional and may be used for court/authority orders, serious personal-safety/privacy risks, clear illegality or situations where continued hosting would create disproportionate harm. A bibliographic record and removal notice are retained where appropriate.

Implementation note

This text is an institutional operating policy of STA Congress. Applicable law, competent-authority decisions and stricter event-specific rules prevail where relevant. Policies must remain consistent with actual workflows and technical systems.
